The Side Horse Safari journal
Short pieces about the ride, the horses and the strip we collect from — written to answer the questions guests actually ask before they book.
Planning the day
All of themPrice, pickup, timing — the practical shape of the outing.
- What the fare covers One fare, one rider, and the hotel transfer already inside it. Here is where the line falls between what you have paid for and what you have not.
- Why no pickup time is printed anywhere Look for a departure time on this site and you will not find one. That is not an oversight — it is the only honest way to run a hotel collection along a coast this long.
Choosing your ride
All of themBeginners, families, couples — who each version of the ride suits.
- First time in the saddle Beginners are the rule on this safari, not the exception. Here is what the hour is actually like when you are one of them.
- Riding with children Children ride this safari too. A handful of things genuinely change when one of the riders is a child, and none of them should be a surprise on the day.
On the day
All of themWhat to wear, what is provided, how the horses are looked after.
- How the horses spend the rest of the day You are with a horse for about an hour. That hour matters, but so does everything on either side of it, and that is the part no guest is there for.
- Shoes decide the hour Wear what you like for the drive. What is on your feet when you put one in the stirrup is the single item of clothing that can spoil the hour you came for.
Around Side
All of themThe strip we collect from, the country we ride through, and the other ways to spend the day.
- Forest, countryside, shoreline There are three of them and they arrive in that order. Not a climb, not an endurance ride — just an hour that changes its surface three times, which turns out to be plenty.
- The strip we collect from The pickup zones sit along one stretch of coast either side of Side. They are not interchangeable — where your hotel falls on it changes when you are collected, and almost nothing else.
