Orfeus twice, Royal Atlantis twice

Orfeus Park Hotel and Orfeus Queen Spa are two addresses. So are Royal Atlantis Beach and Royal Atlantis Spa & Resort. Shorten either pair to its first word on the booking form and you have given us half of what we need — and at a barrier, half is the wrong half.

The remainder of the Gündoğdu list reads without argument: Crystal Palace Luxury Resort & Spa, Diamond De Luxe Hotel & Spa, Linda Sunny Beach, Roma Beach Resort & Spa, Tui Magic Life Jacaranda. Two are worth a second look even so. Novum Garden Side Hotel carries Side in its name while standing at the far western end of the strip, and the Mary Palace Resort & Spa on this list is not the Mary Palace Resort over in Çolaklı.

Choose the area first and the hotel second. If the name you are looking at is missing from the list below, write it out in full and we will check it rather than guess at it.

Western end: what that tells you, and what it does not

The coast is worked in one direction, and Gündoğdu is where it starts. Çolaklı, Evrenseki and Kumköy follow, then Side itself, and after Side the eastern half of the strip as far as Kızılot and Çenger. Nothing we collect from lies west of you.

Guests read that and conclude they will be standing outside at first light. It does not follow. Where a hotel falls along the coast is not the hour written beside it — that comes out of the schedule built for your particular date, around the bookings actually on it, and it reaches you before the day on the number left with us. We would sooner publish no hour than a hopeful one.

The same hour, the same horses, the same €40

The trail begins under pines, opens into the country behind Side, and finishes along the Mediterranean shoreline with the horses walking on sand. Roughly 1 hour, walked from first step to last, a guide beside the group throughout. A rider collected in Gündoğdu goes out on that and on nothing else, exactly as a rider collected at the eastern end does.

The operator's own description of its riders is that beginners are the rule, not the exception. A short instruction comes before anybody mounts. A riding helmet is available for every rider. Horses are picked to suit build and nerve rather than handed out in turn, and children generally ride from 6, with the guide deciding on the morning.

The line taken can move with the weather, with the state of the ground, with whatever the horses need that morning. None of it alters the hour you booked or the money you agreed.
